The rain was hard before the dawn. The sun did not appear. And in the rain the cruel storm Crushed down the long dark pier. The waves were foamy, fierce and high, As though they tried to reach The low black sky and then to die On the rocks before the beach. Too long we heard the hurricane. T’was pouring cats and dogs… But one bright morning once again So far behind the fogs Above the empty and still bay We saw a sunny ray. It was as rosy as your cheeks’re After my morning kiss. It was as cheerful as the creeks Are under mountain trees. So, let this ray after the rains Bring light and joy and fun. And after storms in souls and brains Let always rise the rosy rays Up from the morning sun. Moscow November 9, 2004
